Two notebooks of Uriah B. Tingley, of Connersville, Indiana, consist of 124 pages of notes of lectures delivered in the Medical College of Ohio by Professors Smith and John Eberle, as well as Dr. Locke, Dr. Rush, and Dr. James Conquest Cross, covering symptoms and treatment of various diseases, human anatomy, and the duties of a physician. Another 100 pages record diary entries between 1838 and 1857, a number of medical case studies, recipes for meicines, and essays on the nature of medical science. The essays include two diatribes against the quackery inherent in the "Botanical" medicine as originated and practiced by Dr. Saul Thompson of Massachusetts.
